Hofstra’s men’s soccer team starts the 2019 season as the third-ranked team in the Colonial Athletic Association, the conference revealed in its preseason coaches poll.
Also, the Pride’s Matthew Vowinkel of New Hyde Park was named to the preseason All-CAA team.
Hofstra received 45 points in the poll and ranks behind 2018 conference champion James Madison (61 points) and the University of North Carolina/Wilmington (60 points). James Madison and UNCW each qualified for the 2019 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament with James Madison reaching the quarterfinals.
In 2018, Vowinkel started each of the 21 matches in which he appeared during his sophomore season in Hempstead scoring eight goals. The Chaminade High School graduate was named an All-CAA Third Team choice last season.
Hofstra finished the 2018 season with a 10-6-5 record and will open the 2019 campaign at home against Fordham on August 29 at 5:30 p.m.
