The timing of Jenna Blank’s first collegiate goal could not have been better.
Two minutes into overtime Thursday night, the Towson University freshman from Holbrook found the back of the net to give the Tigers a 3-2 victory over its Maryland rivals, Loyola University, on the road at Ridley Athletic Complex.
The buildup for the goal started with a run up the near sideline by Chloe Sherry, who connected with Elizabeth Coletti. Coletti then flicked a pass to a streaking Blank who carried the ball to the top of the box. The Sachem North graduate’s shot to the far post found its way past Loyola keeper Sumer Rahe for the game-winner.
In addition to scoring the first goal of her college career, Blank’s tally also gave Towson (1-5-1) its first win of the season.
Through the Tiger’s first seven games of the season, Blank has appeared in all and started two. She has taken 10 shots, four of which were on goal.
Blank and her Towson teammates, which includes Jen Balzan of Stony Brook and Alexis Toles of Garden City, will be on Long Island Thursday, September 20, as they meet Hofstra University in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup. Game time is 7 p.m.
