The first national high school soccer polls for October are a story of ups and downs for five Long Island schools, with one boys team moving up and one long-time girls powerhouse taking a significant tumble downward.
In the USA Today/National Soccer Coaches Association of America boys poll released October 4, Brentwood (10-0-2) sits at No. 6, up five spots from the previous week, while Chaminade comes in at No. 22, down 16 spots from the past week’s survey.
During the week of September 22 through October 3, Brentwood defeated Longwood 6-0, Sachem North 2-0 and played to a 2-2 draw with Commack. Chaminade this past week played to a 0-0 draw with St. Anthony’s and defeated St. Mary’s 5-1.
In the USA Today/NSCAA girls poll, St. Anthony’s (9-0-0) jumped nine spots to No. 6., Islip (9-0-2) holds its spot at No. 11 while Massapequa (10-0-1) drops 13 spots from last week and now sits at No. 16.
It was a big week for St. Anthony’s with wins over Archbishop Molloy 6-0, Kellenberg 2-1 and St. John the Baptist 7-1. Islip continued its winning ways with victories over Bayport-Blue Point 5-0, Mt. Sinai 3-1 and Glenn 6-2. Massapequa suffered its first lost of the season to Oceanside 4-3, but rebounded to top Syosset 5-2 and Shenendehowa 5-0.
