Three goals in 30 minutes by striker Bledi Bardic led the New York Cosmos to a 4-1 win over the Brooklyn Italians, which keeps New York undefeated on the season.

The National Premier Soccer League match played at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth was a meeting of two teams that coming into the game had yet to lose this season.

The Cosmos (8-0-0, 24 points) lead the North Atlantic Conference while the second-place Italians (5-1-1, 16 points) suffered their first defeat of the season. The win also extended  New York’s regular-season winning streak to a club-record 18 games, dating back to the first game of the 2018 NPSL season.

Bardic opened the scoring in the 4th minute when he knocked in a rebound off a shot from Ansi Agolli.

New York would extend its lead to two when Aly Hassan would find the back of the net with a diving header in the 14th minute.

Three minutes later, Bardic would get his brace, giving the Cosmos a 3-0 lead. His third on the night would come at the 30th-minute mark.

Brooklyn’s lone goal came in the 87th minute.

The Cosmos will continue its four-game road swing at Boston City FC on Saturday, June 15, and then at the Rhode Island Reds FC on Sunday, June 16.

They return to Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale to start a four-game homestand against the Greater Lowell Rough Diamonds on Sunday, June 23, at 8 p.m.
