It was another one-goal game for Sky Blue FC, which fell to the Houston Dash 1-0 Sunday at BBVA Stadium.

The match’s lone goal came from former St. John’s All-American Rachel Daly who found the back of the net in the 22nd minute.

On the goal-scoring play, Houston rookie defender Aly Prisock had the ball at midfield and sent a long pass to Daly who was streaking toward the 18-yard box. The England International’s shot found the far-left corner of the net to give the hosts the lead.

Daly’s goal was sandwiched between two quality Sky Blue scoring opportunities. In the 19th minute, Paige Monaghan slipped the ball past the Dash defense to Carli Lloyd. Beating the defender with her first touch, the U.S. International sent her shot over the crossbar.

In the 25th minute, the duo of Monaghan and Lloyd were at it again. Running down the left flank of the field, Monaghan dropped the ball back towards Lloyd at the top of the box, who sent a one-time touch shot just wide of the far-right post.

In the 56th minute, Sky Blue’s had a chance in the second half from a low driven shot by Monaghan, just inches away from the lower-left corner of the goal.

Houston came close to adding another goal to the scoresheet with a quick combination play in the 58th minute by Kristie Mewis and midfielder Christine Nairn. The quick give and go set up Nairn inside the box for a low shot that curled wide of the left post.

Another chance on goal almost saw Mewis get on the scoresheet in the 78th minute. A free-kick sent in from the left side of the field by Nairn picked out Mewis making a run at the back post. Mewis headed it down but knocked it off the left post and the ball bounced out for a goal kick.

Sky Blue FC will be on the road for their next two games as they face the Portland Thorns on Saturday, August 3, at 11 p.m. ET, and then travel to Utah to play at Rio Tinto Stadium on Wednesday, August 7, at 10 p.m. ET. Sky Blue will be back home at Yurcak Field to host the Chicago Red Stars for the club’s Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 14, at 7 p.m. ET.
