Annual LIJSL Convention Set For March 8-10


The 37th annual Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Convention will once again bring together the Long Island soccer community to celebrate the sport, local players and volunteers.

Set for March 8-10 at the Huntington Hilton in Melville, the annual gathering is expected to attract more the 10,000 attendees, according to organizers.

The annual Awards Dinner will be held on Friday, March 8, as Volunteer of the Year honorees will be recognized. In addition, LIJSL Hall of Fame honorees will also be honored. They include John Davis, East Islip Soccer Club; Gary Kofsky, West Islip Soccer Club; Diana Riccardi, New Hyde Park Wildcats and Robert Walters of the Baldwin Eagles.

On Saturday, March 9, at 3 p.m. the Three Long Island Legends Forum will be held. The panelist will include Chris Armas, New York Red Bulls head coach; Bob Montgomery, director of the New York Red Bulls Academy; and Shep Messing, former goalkeeper for the New York Cosmos and current commentator for the New York Red Bulls, They will have a conversation about the current state of the game.

In addition, A bilingual College Forum for high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Panelist will discuss what parents and players need to know, including NCAA requirements, financial aid packages and choosing the right college.
