Adelphi WSOC Ranked No. 4 In NE-10 Preseason Poll

The Adelphi women’s soccer team is looking for a bounce-back year after finishing the 2018 season with an 8-7-1 record. 

Brooke DeRosa’s team will open the 2019 campaign ranked No. 4 in the Northeast-10 preseason coaches poll, receiving 132 points and one first-place vote. The Panthers has an up-and-down 2018 season. Adelphi won its first six games but would close the season with five consecutive defeats. 

This season Adelphi returns three All-Conference selections and one All-Region honoree from the 2018 season in Kerianne Scorce of Massapequa, Mia York and goalkeeper Sarah Hofmeier.

In the NE-10 poll, Franklin Pierce has been chosen to repeat as champions, earning 160 points, including seven first-place votes, edging Southern New Hampshire for the first-place position in the preseason poll. Franklin Pierce, which went 16-2-2 (11-1-2 NE10) last season and won its eighth conference title in program history.

The Penmen narrowly missed out on being ranked first, as the team recorded 155 points and five first-place votes. Saint Rose came in third with 142 points and one first-place vote while Stonehill rounded-out the top five with 114 points.

Adelphi opens the 2019 season with a non-conference home meeting against Wilmington University (Del.) on September 8 at 7 p.m. Northeast-10 conference action starts the following weekend at Motamed Field against the Penmen on September 14 at 3 p.m.
