The top-ranked Adelphi Panthers remain unbeaten following its 3-2 win over Le Moyne College on Saturday at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse.

Senior John Aydogan of Carle Place had two goals and Paolo Marciano also scored for Adelphi. The victory moves No. 1 Adelphi to 5-0-0 (1-0-0 NE10) on the season.

In a battle of Northeast-10 Conference rivals, the Panthers got on the board first in the 25th minute when Marciano scored his fifth of the season. In the 33rd minute, Le Moyne’s Noah Moothedan would score to tie the match at 1.

Through much of the second half, neither team could find the go-ahead goal. In the 71st minute, Aydogan picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season.

After collecting a pass from Stephen Megaloudis of Bayville, Aydogan dribbled into space and ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the lower-left corner of the net. It proved to be his first career game-winning goal.

Less than four minutes later, Aydogan struck again. This time, he received a pass from Taylor Kaczynski of Dix Hills in stride and went around a defender, before finding the left-side netting with a shot that re-directed off sprawling Le Moyne goalkeeper Josh Mahr.

The Dolphins would pull one back in the 86th minute when Mirko Orchi beat Adelphi keeper Daniel De La Heras with a shot just inside the left post. But that was as close as Le Moyne would get.

Adelphi held a 16-12 advantage in shots. Seven different players tallied a shot for AU in the match. Meanwhile, Le Moyne owned an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

De La Heras and Adelphi starting keeper Matt Apicella combined for three saves. Mahr stopped five shots for the Dolphins.

The Panthers return home for a two-game homestand, starting Wednesday against NE10 rival University of New Haven at Motamed Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
