The Adelphi men’s soccer team won for the ninth time in 10 games with its 2-1 extra-time victory over Assumption College Wednesday night on the road at Multi-Sport Stadium.
Senior forward Aidan Keenan of East Islip scored the game-winner in the fourth minute of extra-time for the Panthers (9-0-1, 5-0-1 NE10). It was his fifth goal of the season and second game-winner of the 2019 campaign.
On the game-winning play, Paolo Marciano on the right flank played a cross to the far post to Taylor Kaczynski, who centered a pass to Keenan who finished into an open net.
The No. 4 ranked Panthers opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Kaczynski scored his four of the season. With his goal and an assist in the match, the Dix Hills native has eight points (2G, 4A) in his past three games.
Assumption’s lone tally of the night came in the 52nd minute when Jason Lages found the back of the net.
Eight different Panthers registered a shot as Adelphi outshot the Greyhounds, 22-13 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
AU freshman netminder Daniel De La Heras made four saves in the win. Jimenez stopped eight shots for Assumption.
Adelphi will be back in action Saturday at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
