Marist senior Hope Quinonez left a few jaws agape on Sunday with her golazo vs. Yale.
With the Red Foxes trailing Yale 2-1 in the first half, the Westbury native and graduate of W.T. Clarke High School received a back pass from teammate Jillian Colucci of Port Jefferson and launched a right-footed curling shot from about 25 yards out. The blast evaded Bulldogs keeper Alyssa Fagel and kissed off the left post and in for the game-tying tally.
Quinonez was immediately mobbed by her teammates to celebrate. However, Yale would get a goal in the 84th minute and go on to defeat Marist 3-2.
Now in her fourth year at Marist, Quinonez has been a fixture on the pitch at the Poughkeepsie-based college. As of September 10, she appeared in 58 games and scored seven goals and adding four assists. She was named Second Team All-MAAC and to the All-MAAC Rookie Team in her freshman season and to the MAAC All-Academic Team in her sophomore and junior seasons.
