With the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) in France as part of its January camp, the squad took time to visit the hallowed grounds of Omaha Beach, site of the Battle of Normandy during World War II.
The Americans met with four WWII veterans — Steve Melnikoff, Frank Devita, Greg Melikian and Pete Du Pre. The four men, all in their 90s, shared their recollections of the historic battle that ultimately led to the liberation of France. Long Island’s Crystal Dunn was among the players who visited Omaha Beach.
These heroes are part of an organization named The Greatest Generations Foundation, which is spearheaded by its founder Timothy Davis. For more information visit www.tggf.org.
