Two college soccer players with Long Island connections were named to Top Drawer Soccer’s midseason Women’s National Top-100 list.
East Islip’s Kayla Saager, a redshirt senior at Binghamton University, and Westbury native Madeline Anderson, a senior at Hofstra University, were named to the Top-100 and ranked No. 36 and No. 64 respectively.
Since transferring from West Virginia, Saager has been a fixture in the starting 11 for the Bearcats. During her junior year, Saager’s first at Binghamton, she was named the America East Conference Striker of the Year, was First-Team All-Conference, Second-Team All-East Region and a First-Team All-ECAC selection.
Following her junior season in which she played in 19 games and scored 11 goals with seven assists, Saager through the first 14 matches of this season has nine goals and four assists.
Anderson has been a fixture on the Hofstra backline since her arrival from Clarke High School in Westbury. Prior to the start of the 2018 season, she was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Preseason Co-Player of the Year and was named to the All-CAA team.
Following the 2017 season, one that saw Hofstra qualify for the NCAA Tournament, Anderson was named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year, a United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-Region selection, All-CAA First-Team, CAA All-Tournament Team, United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region selection.
