Two From Long Island Commit To UConn


Colleges across the country are announcing high school commitments for the 2018 season. In a continuing series, will highlight those Long Island players that are about to embark on the next step of their playing careers.

Below, we highlight the players who will play for the University of Connecticut in the American Athletic Conference this fall.

Halle Palmedo | Manhasset | Manhasset High School
Palmedo played at Manhasset High School under head coach Chris Keen. A senior captain who earned All-Class honors, twice was All-County member and was a Nassau County Finalist. Plays her club ball for East Meadow Soccer Club and was a five-year captain. She also received high honors all four years in high school.

“We are excited to see Halle at this level, said Margaret Rodriguez, UConn’s head coach. “She is an experienced center back who will add depth to our backline. Her best qualities are her composure on the ball, ability to connect out of the back and she is very strong on the tackle.”

Skylar Prendergast | Babylon | St. John The Baptist High School
Prendergast played four years under head coaches Shannon Keenan and Jay Gargiulo at St. John’s in West Islip. A two-time captain (2016-17), she was recognized as a Long Island Top 50 Player three times (2015-17). Named a player to watch in 2017. Her sister, Devin, played at UConn from 2010-13.

“Skylar is a spark on the field and off with her personality, said Rodriguez. “She is very explosive and will get behind defenses often. She has the ability to frustrate opponents with her work rate off the ball and will always be a threat with her speed up top. She will add a different dimension for us up top.”
