It’s been a stellar first season in the WPSL for SUSA FC and two of its players have been awarded league Metropolitan Conference Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.
Center back Rebecca Raber was named Week 7 Player of the Week for her play in SUSA’s 4-0 win at Rhode Island Rogues on Sunday, June 24. Raber, a graduate of Bayport-Blue Point High School who played collegiately at Binghamton University, scored twice against Rhode Island off a penalty kick and unassisted corner kick.
Raber has helped anchor SUSA’s defensive unit during the season that allowed seven goals in eight games and had four clean sheets.
In Week 6, Kelly Marra was named the WPSL Metropolitan Conference Player the Week for her performance in SUSA’s 3-2 win over Rhode Island on Saturday, June 16. The Sayville High School graduate who plays her college ball at the University of Massachusetts, scored twice in the win over the Rogues in what at the time was a meeting of undefeated teams.
SUSA (7-1-0, W-L-D) finished the season in first place in the Metropolitan Conference and, as of press time, awaits the WPSL post-season schedule.
