As SUSA FC prepares for its inaugural season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) the team has signed three additional players, all of whom hail from Long Island.
Joining SUSA are Julia Duffy of Oceanside, who currently plays her college ball at LIU Post; Lindenhurst’s Claudia Cagnina of St. John’s University and Amanda Fitzgerald of Holbrook, who currently plays for Fairleigh Dickinson University.
During her sophomore season at LIU Post, Duffy appeared in 22 games and scored 10 goals with 3 assists. The Oceanside High School graduate scored two goals twice during the 2017 season against So. Connecticut State and Mercy.
Cagnina at St. John’s has appeared in 48 games during her first three seasons with the Red Storm. The Lindenhurst High School graduate has also been called into international play with the Peruvian senior National Team and Peru’s U-20 National Team.
Fitzgerald, a graduate of Sachem East High School, has made 39 appearances for FDU over her first two seasons as the team’s goalkeeper. During her freshman season, she was named to the Northeast Conference All-Tournament team and the NEC All-Rookie Team while also garnering one NEC Rookie of the Week award.
Duffy, Cagnina and Fitzgerald join SUSA’s initial three signings for its WPSL season. Joining SUSA are East Northport’s Kristin Desmond (Hofstra), Rebecca Raber (Binghamton University) of Bayport and Amber Birchwell (Providence College) of Mastic.
The story has been updated to include Cagnina’s participation on the Peruvian Senior National Team.
