The Smithtown West boys soccer team made a major move toward the top of major national high school poll this week as the Bulls prepare for the playoffs.
Week 7 of the USA Today/United Soccer Coach polls has the Bulls ranked No. 5, up seven spots from the previous week’s poll. The team is the only Long Island team to be ranked in either the boys or girls Top-25 polls.
Through games of October 15, Smithtown West was 15-0. During the past week, the Bulls had wins over Whitman 3-1, Bay Shore 3-0, Half Hollow Hills East 1-0 and Northport 4-1. In 11 of the teams 15 games, the Bulls has kept its opponent off the scoreboard. They close out the regular season on October 17 vs. Lindenhurst.
Three other Long Island high school boys soccer teams sit just outside the Top-25. They include Commack, Amityville and Syosset.
In Region II, several local teams are ranked in the Top-15. They include Smithtown West (No. 1), Commack (No. 4), Amityville (No. 5), Syosset (No. 6), Brentwood (No. 9) and Hauppauge (No. 14).
The girls soccer Region II poll features three teams from Long Island: Islip (No. 6), Sachem East (No. 7) and Eastport/South Manor (No. 13).
