In the Boys-Under-15 Arch Cup Platinum championship game between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams, the Smithtown Hawks defeated the Great Neck Strikers, 3-1, to bring the trophy back to Suffolk County.
The final was played on Saturday, June 10 at Stringham Park in LaGrange.
Jamie Sicardi scored two goals and Andrew Agunzo added another for Smithtown.
“We struggled in the first half but had a lot more energy in the second half,” said Patrick Doyle, Smithtown’s coach.
The Hawks added the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award, as determined by the game officials, to their growing trophy case. Amoroso started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980, it has since been copied around the world and he spoke about the benefits of Fair Play across the United States.
