Washington Spirit 4

Goals: SBFC: 2’ Maya Hayes (Daphne Corboz); WAS 51’ Arielle Ship, 61’ Cheyna Williams (Arielle Ship), 73’ Meggie Dougherty Howard (Arielle Ship), Havan Solaun (penalty kick)

Overview: Sky Blue’s first match back from the Tournament of Nation’s break started well but ended poorly. While Maya Hayes goal two minutes in was the start Sky Blue wanted, the second half was far from what the home side expected. While the Blues have had numerous moments of magic this season, they have also had many moments of inconsistency. Their latest bout of inconsistency hit in the second half. The flood gates opened six minutes into the second 45 when Arielle Ship tied the match and would over the 22 minutes served to assist on the next two Washington goals to give the Spirit a commanding 3-1 lead.

Quotable:
Sky Blue FC Head Coach Christy Holly…
“We are obviously very disappointed. We opened this game well and created a lot of opportunities. Unfortunately, as the game progressed, we fell into a shell and made some bad decisions. We just have to learn and grow from this as we go forward in the season.”

What’s next:
Next up for Sky Blue FC is a road match with the Orlando Pride this Saturday.
