Several LIers Heading To MAAC Colleges This Fall

MAAC

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will once again feature a host of former Long Island high school soccer stars as several schools finalize their women’s team rosters ahead of the fall 2018 season.

Below, SleterFC has highlighted teams from the MAAC that as of July 22 have announced their respective commitments of Long Island players.

Fairfield University

Jennifer Bonifazio

Jennifer Bonifazio | Defense | Greenlawn | St. Anthony’s High School
Bonifazio was the center back and engineer of a St. Anthony’s defense that helped the Friars to a perfect 17-0 record and a CHSAA State Title. She helped control a backline that surrendered just five goals in 17 games, including a nine-game shutout streak to end the regular season. In total, Bonifazio helped St. Anthony’s to 12 shutouts in 2017, including a 4-0 victory over Xaverian in the CHSAA Title Game. She was named to the All-State First Team, News 12 All-Long Island First Team, and Newsday All-Long Island Second Team. She was also named the team’s Scholar-Athlete. She was also a captain for her club team, SUSA Academy, helping them to become 2017 National Finalists.

Erika Breitfeller | Forward | Lindenhurst | Lindenhurst High School
Breitfeller was the top scorer in Suffolk County her last two seasons in high school with 46 points, including tallying 18 goals and eight assists as a senior. Before the season, she was named one of Newsday’s top-50 players in Long Island and was a two-time All-County performer. Breitfeller played her club soccer for the East Islip Red Storm and helped them to a first-place spot in the EDP League.

Stephanie Tsangaris

Stephanie Tsangaris | Forward | East Northport | Elwood/John H. Glenn High School
Tsangaris was the Knights’ leading scorer for four-straight seasons and is coming off a 31-point senior year that featured 20 goals and 11 assists. Tsangaris was consistently finding the back of the net, tallying at least one score in 14 of her 18 contests including a hat-trick against Southampton in September. Her goal scoring ability, which featured 55 goals and 41 assists in her high school career, helped her become a two-time selection to the All-State Team and All-County squads. She played her club soccer at SUSA Academy.

Iona College

Emma Havrilla

Emma Havrilla | Goalkeeper | Northport | Northport High School
Havrilla has had two standouts seasons at Northport High School. In 2016 she was named the Suffolk County Playoff Most Valuable Player and was named to the Suffolk County All-League Team in 2016 and 2017. Adopted by parents Bettina and Paul after being born in Moscow, Russia, Havrilla has been raised in an athletic house. Her father played Division I football at Bucknell where he was a four-year letter winner and is currently the Bison’s all-time leader in career tackles. Havrilla plans on majoring in Criminology while attending Iona.

Jackie Morris | Forward | Garden City | Garden City High School
Morris is touted as a versatile player with speed to burn. She was captain at Garden City High School and was also a leader with her club team the Massapequa Strikers.

Taylor D’Alessandro | Defender | West Hempstead | West Hempstead High School
Iona’s newest defender brings an air of leadership and steadiness. D’Alessandro has been the captain of her high school team for the past three seasons while finishing top 25 academically in her graduating class. On the field, she earned Most Valuable Player at the senior all-star game in addition to being named All-Conference, All-Class and All-County. In conjunction with her academic achievements, D’Alessandro is a part of Key Club, a program that organizes service events through the school and West Hempstead community.

Manhattan College

Olivia Maldonado

Olivia Maldonado | Defense | Babylon | Babylon High School
Maldonado is a defender that can play anywhere across the back line. Primarily a center back, she has faced some of the best forwards in the northeast throughout her club career. She played her club ball for East Meadow Soccer Club in the ECNL.

Marist College

Victoria Colatosti | Forward | Northport | Northport High School
Colatosti was on the honor roll and a member of the Academy of Finance and Language Honor Society. She was a four-year varsity starter, team captain, two-time All-County and second-team All-Long Island. Colatosi was a leading goal scorer and two-time County Champion junior and senior year. She tallied 52 career goals and 28 assists.

Ellie Davis | Defense| Port Washington | Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School
Davis attended Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School and was on the Principal’s Honor Roll. She was a Maccabi USA National Team alternate in 2017 and NPL defensive player of the year 2015.

Siena College

Morgan Camarda

Morgan Camarda | Midfield | Massapequa | Massapequa High School
Camarda led Massapequa to three Long Island and Nassau County Championships. Last fall, the senior captain scored the game-winning golden goal in double overtime to propel the Chiefs to their latest county title. She was a two-time All-County selection and was tabbed a Long Island Top-50 Player to Watch by Newsday entering her senior season. She played 12 years of club soccer for the Massapequa Strikers, who she helped guide to a Disney Tournament, State Cup, NEWSS and a CASL Tournament Championship.

Julianna Kissane

Julianna Kissane | Forward | Wantagh | Wantagh High School
Kissane was named a Fourth Team All-State selection in addition to being chosen as an All-County and an All-Class honoree last fall. She plays her club soccer with HBC Impact, which she led to a Region 1 Championship, USYSA National Semifinals appearance and a U-17 State Cup Championship.

Emily McNelis

Emily McNelis | Midfield | Northport | Northport High School
McNelis led Northport to back-to-back Class AA Suffolk County Championships while amassing a 65-5-3 record as a starting midfielder over the past four years. She was named a Fourth Team All-State, a Newsday and News 12 First Team All-Long Island, and a News 12 Second Team All-Metro selection while also being tabbed the Suffolk County League II Player of the Year last fall. McNelis previously earned Seventh Team All-State and Newsday Second Team All-Long Island acclaim following her junior season. She plays her club soccer for SUSA FC, which she helped guide to a New York State Cup and Disney Flight Championship.
