Several Long Island collegiate soccer teams have enjoyed strong starts to their seasons and are now getting some national attention.
The USA Today/United Soccer Coaches weekly polls released September 11 have the men’s and women’s teams at LIU Post ranked in the Top-25 of their respective polls. In addition, several local Division II and Division III schools also make an appearance in regional USA Today/United Soccer Coaches polling.
Under first-year head coach Michael Mordocco, the LIU Post men’s team is ranked No. 23 with a record of 3-1 after not being ranked the previous week. The Pioneers went 2-0 during the past week with wins over Franklin Pierce University 2-1 and East Stroudsburg University 5-3.
LIU Post’s women’s team is up two spots in the women’s Division II poll to No. 19. The team, which has a 2-1 record, had one match this past week, a 2-1 win over Assumption College.
In addition, Pioneers players Lukas Ostermann and Julia Duffy received Offensive Player of the Week honors from the East Coast Conference.
The Division II men’s East Region Top-10 poll includes LIU Post at No. 3, NYIT (3-0) at No. 8 and Adelphi (2-1-1) at No. 10. In the women’s Division II East Region Top-10 poll, LIU Post is ranked No. 3 while Adelphi comes in at No. 4.
In the women’s Division III poll, Farmingdale State, which has started the season 4-1, did not crack the Top-25 but did receive votes in the poll. In the East Region, the Rams are ranked No. 4.
