Ruiz, Garcia Take Weekly Skyline Honors

Two Long Island collegiate players walked away with this week’s top honors from the Skyline Conference.

Rayneri Ruiz, a sophomore forward for St. Joseph’s College (L.I.), was named Skyline Player of the Week. In addition, Jorey Garcia, a freshman forward with SUNY Old Westbury, was named conference Rookie of the Week.

A native of Bay Shore, Ruiz scored the game-winning goal in each of the Golden Eagles wins, 2-1 over Old Westbury and 5-1 over Sarah Lawrence. Ruiz also scored a hat-trick in the Sarah Lawrence victory. On the season, the Brentwood High School graduate has eight goals and 3 assists.

Old Westbury’s Garcia this past week scored the game-tying goal in the Panthers’ eventual 2-1 defeat to St. Joseph’s and scored the game-winning goal in overtime in OW’s 2-1 win over Mount Saint Mary. On the season, the Great Neck native has six goals and an assist in his freshman season.
