Two members of the Georgetown Hoyas will spend the summer with the Long Island Rough Riders as Dylan Nealis and Sean Zawadzki have signed for the upcoming USL League Two season.
The duo played key roles in the Hoyas second consecutive Big East championship as Georgetown (13-5-3) advanced to the third round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Nealis of Massapequa had two goals and seven assists in 21 games (20 starts) this past fall for Georgetown. The senior defender/midfielder was named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team.
“Dylan was born and raised on Long Island and we are delighted to welcome him back to the club,” said Stephen Roche, Rough Riders head coach. “He’s a fantastic right back who showed his ability this year to create goals going forward as well as being a superb 1-v-1 defender. He’s a future MLS draft pick like his two older brothers.”
Nealis’ brother Sean played his college ball at Hofstra University and this year was drafted and signed by the New York Red Bulls. His other brother, Jimmy, also played collegiately at Georgetown and was drafted by the Houston Dynamo. Both also played for the Rough Riders.
Zawadzki had one assist in 21 games (13 starts) for the Hoyas as a freshman. The Big East All-Freshman team selection was called up to the U.S. Men’s National Team Under-19 camp from January 4-13.
“Sean is a very exciting young player,” Roche said. “He has the confidence and ability on the ball to dictate the game from midfield. Another one with pro soccer in his future, we are delighted to have him play in Long Island this summer.”
The Rough Riders begin their 2019 USL League Two campaign against league newcomers Cedar Stars Rush on Saturday, May 11. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
