Rough Riders Men Have A Split Weekend In PDL Action

A weekend of back-to-back matches ended with a win and a loss for the Long Island Rough Riders men in PDL action.

On Saturday, Long Island defeated Evergreen FC 5-1 at Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Va., and lost 2-0 to Ocean City Nor’easters on Sunday at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, N.J.

A rainy night in Northern Virginia did little to slow the Rough Riders offense as goals by Charlie Ledula and Dexter Alexander (both assisted by Sebastian Gordillo) gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at the 30-minute mark. Arthur Bosua would add a third just before halftime to give Long Island a three-goal cushion at the break.

Long Island kept the pressure on in the second half as Gordillo in the 47th minute converted from the penalty spot and Harrison Weilbacher made it 5-0 in the 68th minute. Evergreen FC avoided the shutout with a goal in the 88th.

Thoughts of a weekend sweep, however, would not come to fruition as the Rough Riders fell to Ocean City 2-0.

Following the weekend, the Rough Riders are 5-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the PDL. Long Island is tied atop the PDL Eastern Conference Mid-Atlantic Division with New York Red Bulls Under-23 and Reading United AC with 12 points apiece but sits in third place based on goal differential.

The club plays its next three games at home against Lehigh Valley United (June 6), Reading United AC (June 9), and FA Euro New York (June 16) visiting Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
