The Long Island Rough Riders are looking for two more wins this season as the East Conference Champions will meet Midwest champions Grand Rapids FC Women as part of United Women’s Soccer’s National Championship weekend.
Long Island will meet Grand Rapids on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Grandville High School in Grandville, MI, in one semi-final. The other semi-final will feature West Conference champions and defending UWS champion Santa Clarita Blue Heat and the Detroit Sun FC, the Midwest Conference runner-up and wild-card seed.
The semi-final winners will take meet on Saturday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. for the 2017 UWS Championship.
The road to Grandville was a challenging one for the Rough Riders, who needed to win three matches over a five day period to reach the UWS semi-finals. On Friday, Long Island defeated New York Magic 5-1 and then defeated Lancaster Inferno 3-1 on Sunday.
In the finals on Tuesday, the Rough Riders visited a New Jersey team that it had defeated earlier in the season, but that had not lost at home this season. Morgan Santoro scored twice to lead Long Island to a 5-1 road win.
