Rough Riders Loughren Named To UWS Team Of The Week

Following the Long Island Rough Riders dominating win over Worcester Smiles on a member of the team’s defensive corps was named to the United Women’s Soccer Team of the Week.

Defender Kaitlin Loughren was named to the Week IX Team of the Week. She received the honor for what the league called her consistent performance along the Rough Riders back line, which helped the team to a much needed three points.

In the match against Worcester on July 7, Morgan Santoro scored four goals and Kayla Saager scored twice to lead the Rough Riders to a 9-1 win.

A native of Huntington and graduate of St. Anthony’s High School, Loughren this fall will begin her senior season at Stony Brook University. During the 2017 season, Loughren was a key member of the Seawolves defense that won the America East Women’s Soccer Championship, which earned the team a trip to the Women’s NCAA Soccer Tournament. She was also named to the America East Second Team.

During her first three years at Stony Book, Loughren has appeared in 60 matches with a goal and four assists.
