The Long Island Rough Riders live to play at least one more match in the 2017 United Women’s Soccer season.
Two goals from Kimberly Marra and a one from Morgan Santoro helped the Rough Riders (7-2-1) overcome an early one goal deficit and defeat the Lancaster Interno 3-1.
With the win, Long Island will now face regular season East Conference champion New Jersey Copa FC on Tuesday, July 18, in New Jersey. The winner will receive an automatic berth into the 2017 UWS National Championship set for July 21 and 22 in Grandville, MI.
Needing six points from its final two regular season games, Long Island followed a similar script from its Friday night 5-1 win over New York Magic. As it did on Friday, the Rough Riders conceded the first goal this time in the 39th minute to Lancaster’s Tesa McKibben.
In the 52nd minute, Long Island leveled the match on a goal by Marra, and would take the lead five minutes later when Santoro found the back of the net. Marra would then give the Rough Riders at two-goal cushion in the 82nd minute.
