Kelsey Daugherty may have played her college ball at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), but she has strong soccer connections locally having played with the Long Island Rough Riders.

A native of Kennesaw, Ga., Daugherty is part of a list of players eligible for the 2019 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft. The annual selection of college players is set for January 10 during the United Soccer Coaches Convention at McCormick Place in Chicago.

A 2018 Rough Riders Player of the Year candidate, Daugherty made 41 saves during the summer 2018 United Women’s Soccer season for Long Island (5-3-2).

During her final season with UAB, she set the school career record for saves (351), made 92 saves in 18 games this past season for the Blazers with a 0.99 goals against average and six clean sheets.

Daugherty was named Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Year, named to the All-Conference USA First Team and C-USA All-Academic Team.

“I think Kelsey will be a great pick up for any team that drafts her,” said Karim Diallo, Rough Riders head coach. “She is a good goalkeeper with a tremendous work ethic.”
