Despite playing a player down after a 53rd-minute red card, the Brentwood Blaze rallied for a 4-2 win to take home the Girls U-17 State Open Cup title.

Kristin Finery, Amy Lederer, Ashley Lindsay and Fiona Smyth scored for Brentwood, which defeated fellow Long Island Junior Soccer League club Lynbrook/East Rockaway Screaming Eagles June 3 at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y.

“We woke up after the red card and scored four goals,” said Chris Roche, Brentwood’s coach.

The Blaze received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials and will represent the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) at the Regionals from June 29 to July 3 in Spotsylvania, Va., as part of the National Championship Series.
