Red Bulls To Face Earthquakes In 2019 MLS Home Opener

The New York Red Bulls will home the home portion of 2019 Major League Soccer scheduled on March 16 against San Jose Earthquakes.

Specifics on kickoff time will be announced later by Major League Soccer.

It will be a busy start to the new season for the defending Supporter’s Shield winners. New York will kick off the MLS regular season on the roach with a March 2 meeting with Columbus Crew at MAPFRE Stadium.

The week prior, Red Bulls will begin the season with a CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 series against Atletico Pantoja. The two-leg matchup will begin in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, February 20. The second leg is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27 at 8 p.m. at Red Bull Arena.

Over 23 seasons, New York is 8-8-7 in season openers and 6-2-1 when opening the season at home. The Red Bulls won last year’s home opener 4-0 over the Portland Timbers, with a game-winning goal from 17-year-old Homegrown Ben Mines. In the nine previous home matches to start the season, the Red Bulls have combined for 13 goals while allowing just five, including five shutouts.
