Hofstra is now the only undefeated team in Colonial Athletic Association play as the women’s soccer team defeated Northeastern 1-0 on the road Thursday night.
The victory stretched the Pride’s winning streak to eight games with the team now unbeaten in 10 games. Northeastern, which suffered its first loss in conference play, welcomed Hofstra to Parsons Field with three wins and two draws in five CAA matches. Hofstra is now 7-0-0 in conference play and 11-3-2 overall.
With neither team able to find a breakthrough in the first half as Northeastern outshot Hofstra 4-2, both sides continued to probe during the first 20 minutes of the second half. With the match scoreless as the clocked move past the 70-minute mark, Hofstra would get the game’s only breakthrough.
In the 71st minute, junior Monique Iannella sent in a corner that classmate Jenn Buoncore (Kings Park) played deeper into the box. Freshman Lucy Porter settled it along the goal line and snuck it around Northeastern goalkeeper Nathalie Nidetch (Hewlett) for her second goal of the season.
Freshman Sabrina Bryan had an opportunity to double the Pride’s lead late in the second half, cutting around a defender at the edge of the box and trying to sneak a shot past Nidetch short side, but the keeper batted it away.
With just two games remaining in the regular season, Hofstra will play its final home game on Sunday, hosting Elon at 12:30 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The Pride will honor its eight seniors in a pregame ceremony.
