The Port Washington Cobras needed overtime to defeat the Mayhem of Massapequa, 2-1, in the Boys Under-16 Arch Cup final.
The match between the two Long Island Junior Soccer League teams was played on Saturday, June 10, at Stringham Park in LaGrange.
Douglas Barrera and Matteo Bonati netted Port Washington’s goals.
“I wish we could play Massapequa every week as the game was a great experience for both teams,” said Marc Hatam, Port Washington’s coach. “Although we had only one sub, our kids really wanted to win.”
Port Washington added the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award, as determined by the game officials, to their growing trophy case. Amoroso started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980, it has since been copied around the world and he spoke about the benefits of Fair Play across the United States.
