A two-goal brace by Emma Kelly provided the scoring the Plainedge Strikers would need as they defeated fellow Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) side, the Bellmore Blue Angels, 2-1, in winning the Girls-Under-14 Arch Cup Platinum.
Bellmore were the defending champs and have a long history in the Arch Cup, appearing in the last four finals while winning twice.
This Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game was played on June 9 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.
“We won partly because of the great play of our goalkeeper Victoria Millines and sweeper Danny Gulino, who were both outstanding,” said John Reis, Plainedge coach.
Bellmore received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials.
