Behind a three-goal hat trick by Alexandros Katsaunis and two goals by Michael Iemma, the Plainedge Roughnecks defeated the Greater Long Beach Hurricanes, 5-3, in overtime to win the Boys-Under-11 Arch Cup Gold.

This Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams was played on Saturday, June 3, at Stringham Park in LaGrange.

“We were able to capitalize on a couple more opportunities to win the game in overtime,” said Anthony Iemma, Plainedge coach.

Greater Long Beach received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died in 2016, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980 that would later expand to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland.
