NYIT Recap: Women Get Two Wins, Men Lose Only Game

The NYIT women’s soccer team got two big clean sheet wins this past week, while the men’s soccer team dropped its only match of the week.

Men’s Soccer (6-3-1)

Sunday, October 7 — at Spartan Field, Sparkill, NY
St. Thomas Aquinas 2
NYIT 1 (OT)
Recap: Xavi Senlik (Ronkonkoma, Deer Park High School) staked NYIT to a 1-0 lead with a first-half goal in the 27th minute, but the Spartans evened the score in the 69th minute and would then score the game-winner nine minutes into overtime.

Women’s Soccer (8-3-0)

Wednesday, October 3 — President’s Stadium

Recap: Meaghan Mancini scored a first-half goal and Jessie Sabal of Valley Stream set a program record with her 13th career clean sheet as the Bears defeated Molloy. Sabal made five saves en route to her sixth clean sheet of the season, which matches Kathryn Miller’s 2010 total for most in a single season. The 13 career shutouts establish a new program record, topping the 12 by Jenna Ament set in 2010.

Recap: Natalia Reynisdottir’s goal in the 39th minute off an assist from Hannah Franco of Islip proved to be the game’s only goal. Jessie Sabal of Valley Stream recorded her seventh clean sheet of the season, setting a new program single-season record, and the 14th of her career, also a new program record. The Bears played the final 27 minutes a player down after Jess Hawley of Rockville Centre was shown a red card.
