With the 2018 Major League Soccer season is barely in the rearview mirror, New York City FC (NYCFC) is looking toward 2019 and has scheduled a preseason friendly down south.

The Boys in Blue will head to Nashville for an exhibition match against Nashville SC on February 22 at First Tennessee Park. Nashville played its inaugural USL season in 2018, finishing in 8th place in the Eastern Conference and qualifying for the playoffs.

“We’re really excited to go to Nashville to play a friendly match against a very good USL side in front of some of the country’s best supporters,” said Domènec Torrent, NYCFC’s head coach. “I was very impressed with their debut season. It’ll be a great challenge for us as we make final preparations for the season opener.”

This will be NYCFC’s first trip to Music City, but it won’t be the last. In late 2017, MLS Commissioner Don Garber awarded Nashville a franchise. The team will begin league play in 2020.

The rest of NYCFC’s 2019 preseason schedule will be announced in the coming weeks, the club said.
