Following a weekend in which the Long Island Rough Riders and New York Surf each got much-needed wins, both teams had players named to the United Women’s Soccer Week VIII Team of the Week.

Long Island’s goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty and New York forward Jenna Menta were named two of the Best XI by UWS officials.

Daugherty came up with a pair of “highlight reel saves” to preserve the Rough Riders 3-2 win over New England Mutiny.

In Surf’s come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Connecticut Fusion, Menta tied the game with her 82nd-minute goal and two minutes later would score her second of the game to put New York ahead.

Long Island this weekend closes out the home portion of its 2018 UWS schedule when it welcomes Worcester Smiles to Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Surf is off this weekend and has one game remaining on July 14 against New Jersey Copa FC at SUNY Maritime.
