Four Long Island girls high school soccer teams moved up the national rankings this week as local teams finish out the regular season and gear up for the playoffs.
In the USA Today/National Soccer Coaches Association of America weekly Top-25 girls poll, undefeated St. Anthony’s moved up one spot to No. 5, undefeated Islip moved up one spot to No. 8, Massapequa jumped two spots to No. 14 and undefeated Northport is also up two spots to No. 19.
During the week of Oct. 11-17, St. Anthony’s won both its matches defeating St. Dominic 6-0 and Sacred Heart 3-1. In its final match of the regular season, Islip defeated Shoreham-Wading River 2-1, while Massapequa’s lone match of the past week was a 6-0 win over Port Washington. Northport extended its season-long winning streak to 14 with wins over Half Hollow Hills East 5-1 and Lindenhurst 4-1.
Northport will close out the season with a heavyweight match October 21 at St. Anthony’s.
In the USA Today/NSCAA boys poll, the lone Long Island representative is Chaminade, who drop eight spots to No. 15. During the past week, the Flyers defeated Kellenberg 2-0 and Beacon 5-0.
