LIU Post Recap: Men Lose Twice, Women Get Two Draws

In four matches during the past week, the LIU Post men’s and women’s soccer teams had no wins in four matches with the women’s team battling to draws in two tough matches.

Men’s Soccer (8-4-0)

Wednesday, October 10 — Wilmu Athletics Complex, New Castle, DE

Two late goals by Wilmington proved to be the difference as the LIU Post men’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat. Graduate student Lukas Ostermann scored his league-leading 14th goal of the season for the Pioneers only goal of the game.

Saturday, October 13 — Mercy Field, Dobbs Ferry, NY

LIU Post 2
Recap: Goals by Mercy in the waning seconds of regulation and then in the closing minutes of overtime were the difference in the Mercy win over LIU Post. Graduate student Lukas Ostermann’s scored twice and now has 16 goals on the season.

Women’s Soccer (8-2-3)

Wednesday, October 10 — President’s Field, Old Westbury

LIU Post 2
Recap: Goals by junior Gabrielle Clark and junior Julia Duffy of Oceanside in the 83rd and 85th minute respectively gave LIU Post the lead late. But NYIT’s Hannah Franco of Islip tied the match in the 86th minute.

Recap: It was an even matchup throughout, with No.7 Mercy holding a slight edge in shot attempts, 18-13 and an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Hillevi Eklow made a season-high eight saves to preserve the clean sheet, her sixth of the season.
