Jamaica was two minutes away from facing penalty kicks against Mexico in Sunday’s Gold Cup semi-final.
But Kemar Lawrence had other ideas.
The New York Red Bulls defender put a well-placed set piece strike in the back of the Mexican net in the 88th minute to give Jamaica a 1-0 upset win over the defending Gold Cup Champions. The match was played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
With the win, the Reggae Boyz will head to Northern California to meet the United States in Wednesday’s Gold Cup final at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
The U.S. punched its trip to the finals on Saturday in Dallas with its 2-0 win over Costa Rica in Dallas.
