New York Magic took an early lead in its Memorial Day weekend match against Lancaster, but then the Inferno’s Haley Crawford took over.
The forward, who recently completed her freshman year at James Madison University, found the back of the net four times as the Magic fell to Lancaster 4-1 at Poly Prep Country Day School
In the 12th minute, New York got on the scoreboard first when forward Lissette Rodriguez sent forward Eboni Birch in on goal with a through ball from 20 yards out, beating Lancaster goalkeeper Kelly O’Brien for the 1-0 early lead. Crawford tied the match on an assist from St. Francis University midfielder Siobhan Bross 10 minutes later and in the 40th minute had her second goal assisted by defender Trisha Clark.
Crawford completed her first half hat-trick in the 44th minute on an assist from midfielder Emilie Kupsov. The Magic played an offsides trap that caused problems for the Inferno offense and disrupted their chemistry, causing 12 offsides calls. But the visitors would still score in the 51st minute, as Crawford scored her fourth and final goal of the match. Lancaster outshot New York by a 6-5 margin and Magic keeper Sierra Bonham made two saves.
