In a season full of awards, Hofstra’s Kristin Desmond is receiving one more as the East Northport native was named a Third Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches.
The senior during the 2017 season started all 21 of Hofstra’s matches and finished with nine goals and three assists. She scored in eight games this season, with her lone brace coming against UNCW in a 2-1 Hofstra win on September 24. Desmond finished the season with four game-winning goals, which came over a period of five games from September 14 through October 1.
One of three team captains, Desmond help lead Hofstra to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season title and conference tournament championship, which gave the Pride an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tournament. She was named CAA Player of the Year and CAA Tournament MVP.
Desmond finishes her career in Hofstra’s all-time top 10 for goals and points, becoming the Pride’s fifth All-American and first since Leah Galton earned the honor in 2015.
She is one of 41 players to receive All-America recognition at the Division I level. Each honoree along with their families and coaches will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Luncheon on January 20, 2018, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in conjunction with the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Convention in downtown Philadelphia.
