This year, more of the same is expected of the Pride, according to the CAA preseason coaches poll. Hofstra was ranked No. 1 receiving 81 points and 9 first-place votes. Northeastern was second with 70 points and 1 first-place vote.
The voting was done by the league’s head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own team or student-athletes.
In addition, senior Madeline Anderson of Westbury was named the league’s Preseason Co-Player of the Year and was joined on the Preseason All-CAA team by sophomore Bella Richards.
Anderson was the 2017 CAA Defensive Player of the Year, along with earning United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Region and All-CAA First Team honors. She anchored a defense that posted 11 shutouts, while also adding two goals and two assists.
Richards played in all 21 games last season and earned All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Rookie accolades during her freshman campaign. She tallied three goals and three assists while making 14 starts in the midfield.
Hofstra finished 2017 with 15-4-2 overall record and a perfect 9-0 conference record. After capturing the regular season conference title, the Pride would win the CAA crown to advance to NCAA Tournament.
Hofstra opens the 2018 season on Friday, August 17, when it travels to Bucknell for a 1 p.m. contest.
