Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the Hauppauge Hurricanes punched their ticket to Dallas and the IberCup USA scheduled to kick off in late March.
As the Boys U-14 Premier Division team prepares for its trip to Texas, family members of the Hurricanes players will be holding a fundraiser on Thursday, February 1, at Governor’s Comedy Club @ McGuires in Bohemia. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and showtime is at 8 p.m.
“Our team is super excited to travel across the country to compete in this international youth football tournament,” said Krisztina Abbate, a parent of one of the Hurricanes players who is helping to organize the fundraising event. “We’ve gone to Virginia and Pennsylvania, but this is the farthest our young team has traveled.”
Tickets to the fundraiser are $25 each and must be purchased in advance. During the event, there will be a 50/50 raffle and additional raffles for gift baskets. Abbate said gift basket donations are welcome.
In addition, a RallyMe donation page has been established by team parents that is now accepting donations.
The Hurricanes qualified for the IberCup in late November after winning a four-team tournament held at Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview. Seeded No. 1, Hauppauge defeated No. 4 Stony Brook Santos 3-0, as Mark Aliscio (two goals) and Luke Augeri each found the back of the net in the second half.
In the title match, the Hurricanes defeated Uniondale Aguila 2-1. Hauppauge’s Brandon Palma scored just three minutes into the game and Aliscio netted the game-winning goal.
The IberCup is held in countries around the world including the United States, Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Denmark and Japan. Since the first edition, more than 80 countries have been represented in the IberCup tournaments with more than 40,000 players participating in various IberCup tournaments.
