The Houston Dash took six points from two matches during the NWSL’s Week 9 and Rachel Daly played a major role in both wins.
The former St. John’s Red Storm star, who scored twice in Houston’s 3-2 win over the Washington Spirit, was named the league’s Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association.
Prior to her two-goal performance on Saturday, May 26, vs. Washington, Daly on Wednesday, May 23, had a free kick that set up the eventual equalizer from Kristie Mewis in the Dash’s 2-1 win over Seattle Reign FC.
This week’s honors is the second Player Of The Week honor for Daly, who previously won the award in Week 1 of the 2016 season.
Daly’s first goal of the week came in the 41st minute off a Nichelle Prince cross and finished it with a one-timer to put Houston up 1-0. Her second goal was the result of a Dash breakaway in the 78th minute. Midfielder Linda Motlhalo played in forward Thembi Kgatlana behind the Spirit defense and goalkeeper, and Daly was also crashing the net alongside her. Kgatlana eventually slipped in Daly who was wide open to dribble the ball into the net for her second of the night.
