It’s been a frustrating start to the 2018 NWSL season for Garden City native Emily Menges who has been recovering from a right leg injury classified as tibia stress syndrome.

But the Portland Thorns defender could see her first action of the season on Saturday when her side hosts the Orlando Pride at Providence Park.

OregonLive.com reported that Menges returned to training this past week. Thorns head coach Mark Parsons said Menges would remain in Portland as her teammates heading to southeastern Texas for a midweek clash with the Houston Dash. He was hopeful that the Long Island native would see her first minutes of the 2018 campaign against Orlando.

“We’re not traveling her because we feel a really good, solid week of training without the travel — without losing two travel days — puts her in a position to maybe get minutes against Orlando,” Parsons told OregonLive.com.
