Senior Kayla Saager of East Islip scored 3:06 into overtime to lift Binghamton’s women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over Bryant on Thursday. The victory improves the Bearcats home record on the season to 4-0.
According to the match report, Saager, with her back to the goal, took a feed from sophomore midfielder Ivana Pjetri, spun and split two defenders before ripping an eight-yard shot past the keeper. It was her America East Conference-leading sixth goal of the season and second game-winner.
Freshman keeper Haylee Poltorak of Massapequa made four saves to record her second solo shutout. She lowered her season goals-against average to 0.69.
Poltorak did have to make two point-blank saves to keep the game scoreless in regulation. The first came in the 57th minute from six yards out. Then with about 11 minutes remaining in the second half, she had to dive to stop another close-range Bulldogs chance.
