After more than a year with Chelsea Ladies FC, American international and Long Island native Crystal Dunn is coming back to the U.S.
According to the England side, the Rockville Centre native will be back in the National Women’s Soccer League with North Carolina Courage, who recently acquired her rights from the Washington Spirit. During her time with Chelsea, Dunn was an integral part of helping the team win the WSL Spring Series and helped the Blues reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League for the first time.
She began her first campaign with Chelsea playing as a striker, scoring her first goal just 12 minutes into her first competitive appearance, a 7-0 Women’s FA Cup win over Doncaster. She followed that performance with a goal in her first WSL match against Yeovil Town.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to leave Chelsea,” Dunn said in a statement released by the club. “However, the opportunity to return to the USA felt like the right decision for both personal and footballing reasons at this stage of my career.
“I would like to thank everyone at Chelsea for understanding and will be cheering on the team for the remainder of the season and beyond. It has been a special time and I will always have a place in my heart for Chelsea FC.”
