The U.S. Women’s National Team got a modicum of revenge when it defeated Sweden 1-0 in the first match in a two-game European tour.
Played at Gamla Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, the lone goal of the contest came off the foot of Rose Lavelle in the 58th minute with an assist from Rockville Centre’s Crystal Dunn.
With the clock ticking toward the hour mark, Dunn carried the ball some 20 yards and found Lavelle streaking down the right side. The 22-year old finished with a shot just inside the far post.
The team’s most recent meeting was at the 2016 Summer Olympics when Sweden upset the favored U.S. on penalty kicks, which ended the American’s streak three consecutive Gold Medals.
