For the fifth consecutive season, the Dix Hills Hurricanes are State Open Cup champions, this year winning the Boys U-19 title.
On June 9, the Long Island Junior Soccer League side defeated FC Somers Galaxy of Westchester 5-2. The title game was played at Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview and Dix Hills was awarded the Peter Collins Cup, so named for the U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer and former LIJSL President.
Sammy Steinberg scored two goals while Armand Kirbria, Andrew McDonald and Noel Reyes added one goal apiece for Dix Hills.
“We were sloppy at the start but settled down 15 minutes into the game,” said Dix Hills coach Leo Musacchio. “FC Somers was great competition and they pressed us hard in the beginning but our ball possession eventually made the difference.”
Dix Hills will represent Eastern New York at the Regionals from June 29 to July 3 in Spotsylvania, Va., as part of the National Championship Series.
