Three Long Islanders were named to the United Soccer Coach Division III All-American teams with several others included on All-Region teams.
Brentwood native Roberto Ventura, a freshman forward at SUNY Oneonta, was named to the men’s First Team; Michelle Santangelo, a senior forward at Johns Hopkins University from West Babylon, was named to the women’s First Team; and Northport’s Natasha Albaneze, a senior forward at Williams College, was named to the women’s Third Team.
Ventura’s presence on the field for the Red Dragons was felt immediately this fall as he scored at least one goal in his first seven collegiate games including three game-winners. Ventura led the SUNYAC in goals (12), points (28) and game-winning goals (6). He became the first men’s player in SUNYAC history to garner both the Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year awards in the same season.
Santangelo had a career year in her final season at Johns Hopkins as she achieved career-highs in goals (18), assists (4) and points (40). She also had three hat tricks this season, which is the second most in team history. Her 40 points were also eighth best in a single season while her 18 goals rank seventh best in program history.
Albaneze through December 1 has dished out a NESCAC-best 10 assists and leads Williams with 28 points (9 goals, 10 assists). Four of her goals this season were game-winners. She has scored five goals in her last four games, all in the NCAA Tournament.
